Mafi Gives Special Permission To Export Three Chicken Commodities

Mafi gives special permission to export three chicken commodities

Special permission to export chicken and related products is only allowed for three types of commodities while the export ban on broilers remains in place.

The Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry said the ban from June 1, imposed in line with the Cabinet's May 23 decision, was to ensure the country's continuous chicken supply and food security.

The ministry said the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) had halted the export of live chickens, round chicken carcass, chicken meat cuts and chicken-based food products.

It said continuous monitoring was in place at the country's exit points by Maqis enforcement officers.

"However, after holding in-depth discussions with industry players and poultry associations on this matter, the government decided that special permission be given for the export of colored broiler (ayam daging berwarna), including kampung and black chicken, all chicken-based products and day-old-chicks (DOC) parent stock only," it said in a statement today.

It said the consignment of the commodities must be handled appropriately by the permit owner.

"Any breach of this special permission, and action under subsection 11(2) and 11(3) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728) will be taken.

"If found guilty, one is liable to a maximum fine of RM100,000, jail up to six years, or both.

"For the second or consequent offenses, there will be a fine of not more than RM150,000 or jail of not more than seven years, or both," it added.

The government, it said, would continue to monitor the country's chicken supply, which is improving and expected to stabilize from this month.

Meanwhile, Selangor Poultry Breeders Association chairman Idrus Zainal Abidin said the special permission for the three chicken commodities would not disrupt the country's supply.

"For now, supply is getting better but the price varies from one place to another, depending on the stock from local farms.

"We expect the situation to return to normal in a month or two," he said when asked about the special permission to export chicken to Singapore.
